Obviously the simplest thing to do is to see if you can think of a recent (or not so recent) film in which there were two strong main characters that everyone will recognise. This should give you an immediate boost, as almost all film characters get turned into a costume pretty quickly these days. How about Harry Potter costumes or even something like Captain America costumes. There are countless ways to mix and match characters in this way.

But it doesn’t stop there – think back though your favorite literature and you are sure to find many places where there are two people (or things) in one place in the book. Alice in Wonderland costumes are great for the ladies, but the choice for your partner becomes almost infinite. White rabbit costumes or a Cheshire cat outfit would make a great addition, but you could also look at a Red Queen costume if you want to take your girlfriend with you – or just leave Alice at home and go as the King and Queen of Hearts.

It might seem obvious that you could get some great costume ideas like this, but how about taking things one step further still. This might be for the real gaming addicts out there, but now that console games are starting to rival film and television for box-office revenue it’s clear that there might be games with some greatideas for outfits in them too.

I’ll leave the likes of Halo and Gears of War to the hardcore gamers, but even something as simple as a Mario costume and any one of hundreds of supporting characters would make great costumers for couples.

As we come up to Halloween this year, I’m going to use this blog to see if I can come up with some suggestions for your costumes and also find out where there are some good deals to be had if you want to buy some adult couple halloween costumes for the big night.

Halloween Costume Accessories

Halloween costume accessories are a completely untapped area for making amazing costumes. It doesn’t matter if you are paying for an enormous custom-made costume or if you are putting something together from your existing clothes, Halloween costume accessories can make you so much more convincing in your new role.

Where would Buffy be without her stake, or Eve without her snake (or fig leaves for that matter!)?

If you are looking to make a convincing Cleopatra costume and you have blond hair, then a black Egyptian-cut wig will make it all work so much better. For the men, the accessories will tend to be weapons (sigh). Just make sure you carry any modern looking weapon safely.

Coming down still further, footwear finishes off the whole outfit. Don’t turn up as the gladiator above wearing trainers! Add something close to the look you want and maybe if you like the appearance enough, you could spend more and wear them in normal use….or at least for special occasions. Maybe keep the kinky boots for something more private.

Once you’ve considered all the Halloween costume accessories that are available, you should find little additions that will help most adult couple Halloween costumes that you are trying to put together.

Heaven or Hell? Angel Costume or Devil Costume?

Why would you even consider an Angel costume as part of your Halloween planning?  Well, here’s a questionAngel costume – and it’s not an original one either. Why should the devil get all the good music?

Halloween has a reputation for being a night of evil deeds and you may think of it all as just a bit of fun, but for some, the idea of dressing up as a creature of the night doesn’t fit well with their beliefs even in our secular society.

Devil CostumeSo, should you go to your party as the Devil? We’ve already looked at Adam and Eve costumes, so maybe if you want an idea for a couple, you could go in an Eve costume and have your partner wearing a demonic outfit as the traditional tempter.

The trouble with every modern Angel costume is that they tend to to be made only for women. If you are looking to do a proper bit of holy smiting on Fright night as a guy, then Archangel costumes are harder to find. It may be possible to put something together from other outfits and then to add your own flaming sword! You’ll need an extra large pair of wings, some sandals and a white costume.

Interestingly, the other stereotype at work here is the portrayal of the devil as male. I guess it just follows all the art from every era, right up until Liz Hurley broke the mould in Bedazzled.  As a result, it’s likely to be the guy that gets to carry the pitchfork in any couple although as with all things, there are a few examples of more latex clad costumes available for the ladies if they want them.

The whole area of Christian costumes is completely unexplored and maybe we’ll look at some more ideas in the next post if you still want to have some fun in costumes on the big night but want more alternatives.

One thing is for sure, you may not resolve any long standing issues between good and evil just by dressing differently in an Angel costume on Halloween, but it might be fun to mix it up a bit – especially with all the more traditional werewolf and vampire costumes that are bound to show up this year.

Alice in Wonderland Costumes for Couples – Don’t Be Late!

Alice in Wonderland costumes - Red QueenYou may still be deciding what you’re going to be dressed as on Halloween, and I’m sure many of you have either looked into or already considered this, but, taking a cue from another latest movie, one great idea would be to take inspiration from Tim Burton (and Lewis Carroll, of course!) and go in Alice in Wonderland costumes. I know the recent film is a bit darker than other versions, but then again, the goal was to present something fresh to audiences, and many have come to expect this from Tim Burton – so ride on his imagination and let’s jump down the rabbit-hole.

If you’re a couple, this might still be one theme you might want to consider. There are a lot of opportunities and ideas found in the various characters of the movie, each of them, I think, would be fun to play.Mad Hatter costume

Four Top Science Fiction Adult Costumes for Couples.

No other genre has done so much in recent years to portray strong female characters in our movies and as a result, if you’re looking for adult costumes for couples, science fiction has a lot to offer.

I’ve already covered Avatar in a previous post (see Avatar costumes) but it doesn’t take much to uncover a lot of films in this space that lend themselves perfectly to a Halloween costume party.

First up is the classic sci-fi heroine: Ripley. The poor woman has been through so much with all those slimy aliens, but she still comes out on top. What can we do here if we’re looking for adult costumes for couples? The obvious combination would be a Ripley costume and an Alien costume, a bit restrictive for the guy, but theoretically you get two tongues and surely that’s a good thing.

Slightly less obvious, but maybe easier to pull off would be to go as Ripley but to get a colonial marine costume for him – go as Hicks, the tough but kind-hearted marine from Aliens. This should let you choose slightly more generic military gear and then customise it slightly for the final touches….get the number 42 on the gun display, put a camera on the Adult Costumes for Couples - Terminatorside of the helmet – hmm, starting to sound like a geek here!

Second in the list of rich series for costume ideas would be the Terminator films. You could try for a Sarah Connor costume from the first film – all 80’s big hair and wide-eyed terror, but at this point I struggle for which way to go. It would be much more romantic to find a Kyle Reese outfit, but this would be pretty generic. I guess you could get away with a lot more like this, but personally I reckon it’s worth the extra effort to find a full Terminator costume. Even here, you might get away with a flak jacket and a full head mask, but don’t forget your “phase-plasma rifle in the 40-watt range” – oops, there I go again!

I’m not going to go through all the possibilities here, but finding a Neo costume and a Trinity costume should make you instantly recognisable. If you are as picky as me, see if you can find an old Nokia 6110 on ebay for the slide action phone that Neo uses. Sigh, wish I’d never given mine away!

Finally, just to prove how deeply sad I really am, you could hit up the Firefly series (or Serenity film) for a thousand adult costumes for couples – well, a few anyway!

Mal is not only a really strong character, but a Browncoat costume appearance is both easy to pull off and easy to accessorize. You can go in a lot of directions for a female lead as so many of the characters are so memorable. How about Zoe, Mal’s right-hand man(?) – as a tough military character, she should be easy to outfit. Or what about going as Inara, finding a costume that works for a “Companion” should be pretty easy.

The beauty of science fiction as a genre is that the womens’ lead roles don’t always stray into the purely pornographic. Sexy, yes, but strong and sometimes even fully-dressed! It’s just these characteristics that make this a perfect hunting ground for adult costumes for couples.
